Please come out to Wings Pizza N Things this Thursday, August 14th from 4-10 p.m. Meet our newest teammate, a local Colorado Curling Legend that won the National Curling Championship at the Broadmoor World Arena in 1983. Our intention is to make it to the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling. The Broomfield Event Center will host the weeklong competition February 21-28, 2009, in a 7,000-plus seat arena located between Denver and Boulder. The winner is the team that will represent the USA in Vancouver.

There is an old saying “when the student is ready, the teacher appears”. This is usually the case in any trade, sport or hobby, and was the case with us in curling. We knew that we had to practice, so once we got back from Nationals, we were able to secure the ice time thanks to the winning spirit of Boston Bruin hockey legend, Al Pederson of the Colorado Sports Center. We were able to barter with them, which became a win-win for all of us! So off we went curling at 4:00 a.m. Yes that is not p.m., but a.m. In order to prepare the ice...

As of April 2008, Jeremy Hebert, who played the Lead position for Eight End Curling, decided to quit the team to pursue other endeavors. Although the team regrets his decision, we certainly wish him well in the future. Jeremy was an integral member of Eight End Curling. He was on the ice from day one with the boys equally willing to swallow his pride as we learned this crazy sport we call Curling. Although we were only about one year into this journey when he decided to quit, Jeremy certainly had the potential to accomplish great things in...

I have heard it said that the definition of courage is the ability to carry on after the enthusiasm has worn off.
When the bell rings and you come out of your corner, gloves are raised high, mouthpiece is in, and you believe that you can win. A few rounds later your eye is hurting and maybe a little blood is coming out your nose but the belief that you can still win never left you. The last round comes you can’t see, your nose is flat, and at that time you have a choice. Throw in the towel or stand up, get out of your corner, and go win...

Beyond doubt, curling is a sport of ethics and character; the proverbial gentlemen’s game (a gentlewomen’s sport too…yes I know women curlers are more prevalent now than ever before). But there is a unique sports tradition exclusive to curling that clearly distinguishes it from others. It’s called “stacking brooms”.

But what is “stacking brooms”?

According to legend, at the end of a match, teams would collectively prop up their brooms in a firewood-like pile as they would meet and discuss the competition in...

It's the little things that count

What was meant to be a week of banking on at least a “W” or maybe two, turned out to be the realization that the little victories within matches and not an actual win brings hope and would add confidence to the team. The competition here is so stiff and the ability to score in multiple ends and score multiple points in an end translated to massive boosts to the moral of the team.

A revelation that most of these teams are currently at the top of their game and typically will not see as much tangible results immediately. We are...

8 End Curling Club is all set to hit the road to Mankato, MN. We are ready to compete against 9 of the toughest curling teams in the country. On Sunday March 2nd we take the ice at 4:00 pm central time, where the forcast calls for a 30% chance of snow and a nice balmy 20 degree low for the day. We will go head to head with Wisconsin 1 (#1 seed). We are ranked last, and we play the best team first! I guess we have nothing to lose and everything to gain, right? At least we can make fun of how they talk don't cha know? Ya, you betcha! ...
