Handset maker Sony Ericsson is announcing plans for its first Windows Mobile device, a move aimed at boosting the company's presence in the North American smartphone market.

The first product is a business-oriented phone with a QWERTY keyboard, but a family of devices is expected. Over time, Microsoft hopes Sony Ericsson will leverage its camera and music expertise to help build more consumer-oriented devices.

"They've really got some great consumer brands that we'd love to partner with and bring to Windows Mobile," Microsoft Vice...

The OpenFrame is a home phone envisioned by John Sculley, former Apple CEO – that resembles Apple's iPhone. Designed to be used with services like Verizon's FiOS. It features a large, bright touch screen with a very iPhone-like interface of cuddly icons and touch keypads, as well as some standard phone handsets you can use to just make calls.

The various devices are built on Freescale MX31 processors "with two 600-MHz ARM11 chips doing the heavy lifting" for features like streaming video, music, web surfing, and more. According to the...

On the eve of the Consumer Electronnics Show in Las Vegas, Warner Bros announced that it would no longer release its movies on Toshiba’s high-definition DVD format, HD DVD, after May 2008. This is sure to please Sony, the other player in this on-going format war, whose Blu-ray format will now on be blessed with the exclusivity of Warner’s flicks.

Now the HD DVD group is canceling its CES press conference; tail severely between legs over today's explosive news that Warner -- the last "undecided" studio -- was going to the other side and...

Maxian E900T is a multi-functional personal media player from Korea. Lately we’ve seen a lot of new gadgets with similar features from Korea but Maxian E900T at least has a slightly different form factor. It has a 4.3″ TFT touch screen, but also features interface buttons on each side.

It comes in two versions - 30GB and 60GB - and it has support for almost any multimedia file you can think of. It even has a memory slot that accepts SD cards, and a Li-Ion battery that has 4000mAh capacity which is unheard of for a portable media player....

Toshiba has announced their entry into the rapidly crowding market for NAND-flash-based solid-state drives with nine products ranging in storage capacities from 32GB to 128GB in three form factors: an embedded module, and both 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch notebook friendly drive enclosures.

When Verizon Wireless announced last month its plans to "open" its network some people noticed very quickly that what Verizon Wireless was announcing didn't sound any different from what GSM operators, like AT&T and T-Mobile already had. It was just that the GSM operators hadn't come up with the PR gimmick to call it "open." Since they already had it though, it didn't take a genius to figure out that it wouldn't be long before they declared their networks open as well. And, that appears to be exactly what AT&T is doing -- but somehow, it...
