  2. What is a Gate?

    We call them gates because they are virtual gateways to content and community. Every gate can be public or private. Gates consist of a communal blog, forum, calendar, feeds and tags.

  3. Do I have to be a member to participate?

    You do not have to be a member to vote on, send, comment, read or view posts anywhere in CommonGate. You do however have to be a member to join gates, create a profile, start a gate, upload photos, make posts and keep a calendar.

  4. How do my posts get featured on the main CommonGate page?

    Posts from all over commongate are posted to the main commongate page. Posts from members are placed on the main page based on timing, relevance and the credibility of the poster.

  5. How do I join CommonGate?

    Just go to the sign up page and simply fill out your Username, Password, Email address, Date of Birth, Gender, Country and City.

  6. How do I join a gate?

    When you are in gate you want to post to, simply select "JOIN THIS GATE" and you will become a member.

  7. I lost my password, what do I do?

    Enter your username or email address here. We will send you an email with instructions for how to reset your password.

  8. How do I make a post?

    You must be a commongate member to make a post and you must join a gate to post to that gate. Once you are logged in simply select post on the gate you want to post to and fill out the post fields. You can preview and edit the post before you save it and post it.

  9. Can I change a post after I make it?

    Yes, you can edit a post anytime after you make. It is available to the commongate community a few minutes after it is posted.

  10. How do I search commongate?

    You can search the main commongate page and each gate by keyword or search any gate by tags in its tag cluster.

  11. How do I embed videos in a post/blog?

    To embed a video, just copy the code from the "Embed" of a video-sharing site. Once you've copied the code, just paste it into the content area of the post and it will show up when you save the post.

  12. How do I make my gate private?

    On the start a gate page, simply select whether you want your gate to be public or private. You can modify this later in your Gate's "rules".

  13. How do I invite people to CommonGate?

    You can invite people to join commongate from you main header, once you are logged in, or invite people to a particular gate, or which you are a member.

  14. What does reputation mean?

    Reputation indicates your participation and standing in commongate. It is derived from how long you have been a member, how many connections you have within commongate and the relevance and quantity of your posts and comments.

  15. How do I use messages?

    Messages is an internal messaging system for Commongate. It works like a basic email and allows you to send messages to other people in commongate. It is also where you approve or deny friend requests and receive messages from the administrator. You can select notification in your Edit Account / Profile so that you receive notifications to your email when you get a message in Messages.

  16. How do I make connections in commongate?

    When you see a person you want as a connection, simply add them to your friends and a friend request will go to them. If they approve this request they will be added to your connections.

  17. How do I get commongate on my own URL?

    There are commongate PRO features that allow you to host your gate at your own URL.

  18. Is CommonGate free?

    Yes, you can join, post create and communicate allover commongate for free. We do have a few PRO features and will be rolling out new ones as we go, but the ones you have now will stay free.

  19. How many members are there on CommmonGate?

    We do not disclose private information about CommonGate or its users. If you are interested in CommonGate as a company please contact us.

  20. What is OpenID?

    OpenID is a simple single sign-on mechanism that allows you to login at multiple websites with the same identity. CommonGate supports the OpenID distributed identity system, letting non-CommonGate users bring their identity here.
