Yahoo will soon be allowing third parties to enhance the Yahoo Search experience. The new platform, codenamed “SearchMonkey” and officially called Open Search Platform, will consist of a set of APIs that allow third parties to modify search results on Yahoo by adding images, structured data and additional deep links.

The US has successfully struck a disabled spy satellite with a missile fired from a warship in waters west of Hawaii, military officials say.
Operatives had only a 10-second window to hit the satellite - USA 193 - which went out of control shortly after it was launched in December 2006.
Officials were worried its hydrazine fuel could do harm, but it is not yet known if the fuel tank was destroyed.

The FIA has confirmed the 2008 Formula One calendar, including the world championship's first night race at the new Singapore track.
The schedule issued following today's World Motor Sport Council matched the provisional calendar released earlier this year, but with Canada, Singapore and Valencia all confirmed, and Singapore specified as the first floodlit evening Grand Prix.

With all the rumors and gossip out there, it’s nice to be able to report a legit piece of Google-Facebook news. Google News, which is on a bit of a bender when it comes to trying new things of late, went live today with a Google News app for Facebook. As explained on the Google News blog, “this experimental application enables users to create custom sections or select from a set of pre-defined topics, then browse and share stories with their friends on Facebook.” It’s still in 'beta'
Ticked off that the United States gave the Dalai Lama the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal this week, reports are trickling in that China is blocking Google, Yahoo and Microsoft searches and redirecting them to Baidu. Benjamin Ling, a high-ranking engineer described by Google watchers as one of “Larry and Sergey’s golden boys” has defected—to Facebook.
Reached in his Google office late yesterday, Ling confirmed the move, but declined further comment. His last day at Google is Friday.
Ling follows ex-Googler Gideon Yu, who was the Chief Financial Officer of Google’s YouTube, to Facebook. Yu left for the CFO’s slot at the Palo Alto startup in August.
