Yahoo will soon be allowing third parties to enhance the Yahoo Search experience. The new platform, codenamed “SearchMonkey” and officially called Open Search Platform, will consist of a set of APIs that allow third parties to modify search results on Yahoo by adding images, structured data and additional deep links.
The altered results can contain far more information than the current link and a bit of text from the website. For example, Yelp, one of the launch partners, will include a photo, review information and the address and...

The US has successfully struck a disabled spy satellite with a missile fired from a warship in waters west of Hawaii, military officials say.
Operatives had only a 10-second window to hit the satellite - USA 193 - which went out of control shortly after it was launched in December 2006.
Officials were worried its hydrazine fuel could do harm, but it is not yet known if the fuel tank was destroyed.
The controversial operation has been criticised by China and Russia.
On Thursday, China called on the US to provide more information...

The FIA has confirmed the 2008 Formula One calendar, including the world championship's first night race at the new Singapore track.

With all the rumors and gossip out there, it’s nice to be able to report a legit piece of Google-Facebook news. Google News, which is on a bit of a bender when it comes to trying new things of late, went live today with a Google News app for Facebook. As explained on the Google News blog, “this experimental application enables users to create custom sections or select from a set of pre-defined topics, then browse and share stories with their friends on Facebook.” It’s still in 'beta'

Ticked off that the United States gave the Dalai Lama the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal this week, reports are trickling in that China is blocking Google, Yahoo and Microsoft searches and redirecting them to Baidu. I don't have to explain how important the Chinese market, including search market, is to the U.S. economy. I wonder what else China has up their sleeves.
Baidu is traded on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Say what you want about Google's stock price, but Baidu's share price keeps increasing--it's at a lofty $320 per share as of...

Benjamin Ling, a high-ranking engineer described by Google watchers as one of “Larry and Sergey’s golden boys” has defected—to Facebook.
Reached in his Google office late yesterday, Ling confirmed the move, but declined further comment. His last day at Google is Friday.
Ling follows ex-Googler Gideon Yu, who was the Chief Financial Officer of Google’s YouTube, to Facebook. Yu left for the CFO’s slot at the Palo Alto startup in August.
Google’s stock has surged to over $600 a share recently, which, ironically, is making...

The Mercedes Benz F 700 concept will feature the German automaker's innovative powertrain technology called DIESOTTO. Under the hood of this model comes a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that combines the low emissions of gasoline fuel with the fuel consumption advantages of diesel fuel.
A third vertical row of single high-performance LEDs are the daytime driving lights. The driver’s door also “observes” its surroundings attentively. If collisions threaten, the door is arrested by a controllable hydraulic cylinder.
Dr. Thomas Weber,...

Blizzard didn't just include voice chat in WoW patch 2.2. They put a whole new sound engine into the game. For some people, that's great news. But for others, not so good. While there are a few little glitches and bugs floating around, it seems there's a big problem with Creative sound cards (definitely one of the most popular sound card brands out there). And Creative has posted on their message boards that officially, they're not very happy that Blizzard didn't consult them when upgrading their sound engine.
Apparently Blizzard's new...

This photo released from Hiroshima University professor Masayuki Sumida shows a see-through frog with visible organs, blood vessels and eggs under the skin. Sumida's team has created the first transparent four-legged creature, although some small fish are also see-through.

At least they can poke fun at themselves! Subliminal advertising?
